Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh is an independent organization founded in 2015 that encourages environmental activities on Phu Quoc Island.
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh was established by Mr. Tran Van Sanh, nicknamed Tieu Sanh. At first, Mr. Sanh invited his friends and acquaintances who are Goc Anh Phu Quoc Club's members, tour guides, the hotel staff, etc to clean up the trash with him.
John’s Tours Phu Quoc and Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh collected trash at Dinh Cau
He and his friends only picked up trash at Dinh Cau beach every Sunday. Then the group expanded to dozens of members and was supported by local companies. Therefore, the group has enough resources to clean up the other areas on Phu Quoc Island.
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh heads towards sustainable development in Phu Quoc environmental protection. Their main goal is gathering garbage, and removing plastic and other types of waste along beaches, residential areas, and small islands.
Unsurprisingly, the trash collected in cleanups tends to be plastic. We all know that the global plague of plastic waste increasingly pollutes coastlines, rivers, as well as the ocean. Plastic pollution is extremely harmful to wildlife and humans as well. It clogs our waterways, contaminates food chains, traps, and kills wild animals, especially Phu Quoc sea creatures such as corals.
Each volunteer participates in the campaigns of collecting trash bringing their love for Phu Quoc and the spirit of preserving the green and clean of Phu Quoc. This meaningful activity attracted not only local citizens but also travelers to participate and put some small efforts to save the Phu Quoc environment together.
The rain came suddenly when volunteers were collecting trash on the beach
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh's weekly activities in the different local areas make a long-term and practical habit for each inhabitant.
“Green Sunday” - A day for saving the Phu Quoc environment
“Green Sunday” - The activity of cleaning up the environment is the periodic activity implemented in the past 7 years and the following years.
At the end of Sunday every week, they collected tons of trash. The aim of Green Sunday is not just to clean up the waste because the effort of dozens of people can not clean up all the garbage, but also to be a warning about the severity of the mismanaged waste crisis. On the other hand, calling to deal with the root causes of it.
“Green Sunday” activity
For both Phu Quoc local people and tourists, when they see volunteers join hands to protect the living environment, there is no reason for them not to raise their awareness. At that time, Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh gets double the efficiency of this campaign.
John's Tours is extremely happy when we have a chance to give a hand in cleaning and raising awareness to create a sustainable future for the Phu Quoc community with Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh.
In addition to clean-up, Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh also organizes meetings with local people to provide knowledge on:
- Sorting waste
- Making organic fertilizer from food waste
- Applying the 3R (Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse) in household
And other practical activities such as exchanging plastic waste for gifts (essential spices, milk, cooking oil, canned sardine, etc.).

“Phú Quốc quá trời dép” campaign
Recently, Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh has held a campaign to respond to the “Green Sunday” called "Phú Quốc quá trời dép" (literally means Phu Quoc has a whole lot of trash footwear) with the participation of dozens of volunteers who live and work here.
"Phú Quốc quá trời dép" campaign
After 4 trips to clean the beach and 1 trip to remove trash from coral, Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh collected more than 2 tons of slippers.
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh is aware that plastic pollution is a serious problem. However, people set aside this issue for a long time. Many people accept it as normal when they drop off their slippers and other trash in the ocean, by accident or on purpose. So they decided to do something that was more remarkable.
When exchanging opinions with volunteers about the activity of collecting and building models from footwear, they agreed immediately. This has implications for both tourists and locals, Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh hopes to raise their awareness about the current state of plastic pollution and call to protect the environment.
Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh's volunteers are sorting footwear
More meaningfully, when the models are completed, tourists and the inhabitants can take pictures with them, and the spread can go further.
This project is in the model idea conception stage and scheduled for completion at the end of October 2022. Everybody can join them in sorting and cleaning, then building 3 models from footwear.
John's Tours hopes that those meaningful activities will spread to more people. More and more people take part in Phu Quoc Sach va Xanh's programs.
Do not forget a tiny little thing that you can save the Phu Quoc environment is to Put your waste in the right place.
John’s Tours always coordinates with local agencies to spread a positive effect to each individual in a society with the desire of Phu Quoc island into a green tourist city.
