Vietnam has an S-shaped strip of land. Phu Quoc island is located at the southern tip of Vietnam and in the Gulf of Thailand. As its name suggests ("Phú" means rich), Phu Quoc island is blessed with beautiful nature, wonderful forests, and a diverse marine ecosystem.
Tourists travel to Phu Quoc because of the deserted destination, impressive attractions, dreamlike beaches, and small islands. The beaches here have fine sand with golden sunshine and always create a feeling of relaxation and comfort. Now take a tour of the beaches not to be missed when traveling to Phu Quoc island!
1. Sao Beach Phu Quoc
Sao Beach is no wonder called "the most beautiful beach on Phu Quoc island". The beach has surprisingly beautiful natural scenery, pristine beaches, endless stretches of white sand, jade-like blue seawater, and pleasant weather.
The sand here is the whitest in Vietnam, as white as vanilla ice cream. Sao Beach has captured the hearts of many Phu Quoc tourists. Sao Beach is like the crescent moon with a long coastline, surrounded by two capes: Hang Cape and Khem Beach Cape. Therefore, there is crystal clear and shallow water.
Sao Beach Phu Quoc is in the southeast of Phu Quoc island, in An Thoi ward - the area has a lot of tourist attractions. It is 25km from Duong Dong ward. You can go here by motorbike, car or taxi.
If going from Duong Dong ward, you can follow Nguyen Van Cu Street (DT46 on Google Map) to the south of Phu Quoc island. After you cross the Cau Sau market, you will see a junction with a sign of Sao Beach on the left.
Then turn left and go straight ahead about 1km more, and three alleys appear:
The left way will lead to Paradiso restaurant.
The middle way will lead to local restaurants: My Lan, and Huynh Nhu.
The right way will lead to Long Beach Restaurant.
My Lan and Huynh Nhu restaurants area attract a lot of tourists with water sports and activities.
According to John's Tours' experience, the best time to visit here is from May to October. Surely many tourists will wonder why they should come to Sao Beach during Phu Quoc rainy season. The special thing is that at this time, Sao Beach on Phu Quoc island is in the most beautiful season. The beach is hidden from the southwest monsoon, so the waves are calm, and the water is very clear and blue. The west beaches are not the perfect destinations during the Phu Quoc wet season.
You can freely swim, sunbathe and participate in watersports such as kayaking, parasailing, jet-skiing, and banana boat riding. Besides Sao Beach, you can visit Khem Beach, Phu Quoc Prison, Truc Lam Ho Quoc Pagoda, and the pepper garden nearby.
2. Khem Beach Phu Quoc
Locals usually call Khem Beach or Kem Beach ("Kem" means ice cream) because this beach has white sand, not yellow like the west beaches of Phu Quoc island. The sand here is very smooth and creamy white.
Bai Khem is not as famous as Sao Beach, because it is on the grounds of many resorts. Therefore, Khem Beach has quiet scenery. Lying down under the shadow of coconut trees, and sinking into the peaceful space here, all the sorrow will follow the breeze.
Realizing the breathtaking landscape of Khem Beach, many hotel groups built impressive resorts such as New World Phu Quoc Resort, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay,...
It is a favorite place of inhabitants in An Thoi ward. Everybody often comes here every afternoon to swim, play football, and volleyball.
Khem Beach is on the west side of Phu Quoc island so the best time to come here is from May to October.
3. Truong Beach - Long Beach Phu Quoc
Truong Beach (Long Beach) is the longest beach on Phu Quoc island - 20km extending from Dinh Cau Harbor to the north of An Thoi ward. This place is considered a paradise beach when the whole stretch of beach has no rock reefs.
Long Beach is an ideal destination for resort tourists with high-class resorts such as 6-star Regent Resort, InterContinental Phu Quoc, Novotel, Pullman, Best Western Premier Sonasea, etc. Because Long Beach has many hotels and resorts, tourists come to enjoy it at any time of the day. If you love the bustle next to beautiful nature, this beach is for you.
Parallel to Truong Beach is Tran Hung Dao street which has many restaurants (serving Vietnamese and foreign cuisine), eateries, coffee shops, and beach bars. Sunset Sanato is one of the most wonderful places to catch sunset moments on Phu Quoc island. Sunset Sanato has resorts, villas, beach clubs, and a long beach with bamboo and wooden structures skillfully designed by Nikita Marshunok.
Truong Beach is in the west of Phu Quoc island so it is one of the best places to admire the gorgeous sunset. You can lie down on the sand, enjoy seafood or sip a glass of cocktail while watching the sun go down.
The best season to go here is from November to April. Truong Beach is hidden from the northeast monsoon.
4. Vung Bau Beach Phu Quoc
Vung Bau Beach is in the North of Phu Quoc Island. Vung Bau is famous for its wilderness and uninhabited. The beach has rows of green trees along the golden sand, creating a beautiful natural landscape. The coastline is arc-shaped, more than 5km long, extending from Ong Quoi Cape to Nam Nghi Resort.
The resorts concentrate north of Vung Bau beach and there are no inhabitants here. Therefore, this is an ideal destination for those who love peace and nature.
The beach is beside the forest. Visitors not only immerse themselves in the clear blue sea, sunbathe, and enjoy grilled seafood here but also participate in water activities such as kayaking. One of the fabulous things I like the most here is admiring the romantic sunset while swimming in shallow cool seawater.
You ought to visit here from November to April. This beach is not beautiful during Phu Quoc rainy season because of the southwest monsoon.
5. Ong Lang Beach Phu Quoc
Ong Lang Beach is on the west side of Phu Quoc island, more than 6km from Duong Dong ward to the north and 4km as the crow flies from Vung Bau beach to the south. Ong Lang is not a stretch of beach like the beaches mentioned above, rocky beaches interspersed with sandy beaches. However, this place is still an attraction for foreign tourists and locals.
Not having a white sandy beach like Sao beach or Khem beach, nor as crowded as Truong beach, Ong Lang beach has its charm with its gentle golden sandy shore sloping down to the sea.
The rocky beaches of all shapes are places to admire the setting sun cast an orange glow over the ocean. These rocky beaches are also places to take pictures. Many couples who live on Phu Quoc island choose this place to take their wedding photos.
People hold BBQ parties regularly here. Enjoying your favorite food, swimming, playing, sunbathing during the day, and watching the dusk are great choices.
Many resorts have restaurants on the rocky shore such as Mango Bay Resort (On The Rock Restaurant), Ocean Bay Resort (Ocean Bar & Grill), and Camia Resort (Sunset Restaurant) which are the best places to indulge in the dusk and enjoy a romantic dinner.
Next to Ocean Bay Resort is Le Kim Dinh Temple - "Dinh Ba". It is a sacred place where the locals often burn incense and pray.
6. Rach Vem Beach Phu Quoc
Rach Vem Beach is at Rach Vem Fishing Village. This beach is famous for its peace and no buildings. The inhabitants here earn a living as fishermen. They set sail, fish, and sell seafood to floating eateries that serve tourists' meals.
Many floating restaurants concentrate in the south area of Rach Vem. You have a lot of choices for your lunch. However, the beach here is not beautiful, the area near the beach is full of seaweed, and you only can swim in a place far from the shore.
The North Rach Vem area has fewer floating restaurants, but there is the white sand beach and many chocolate chip sea stars (horned sea stars). The seawater is shallow and clear blue so that you can kayak, SUP to tens of meters offshore to sightsee the landscape.
Let's lie down on the fine sand to enjoy the sunshine, relax, read a book or take photos of this beautiful scenery. It's the time to slow down and savor your life.
Rach Vem Beach is about 24km from Duong Dong center. It takes you 45 minutes by car. You have to travel the 7km unpaved lane (which is very muddy on rainy days) in the primary forest before you get there.
Therefore you should not visit Rach Vem Beach during the Phu Quoc wet season. The rain and wind make the seawater turbid. It is beautiful during the Phu Quoc dry season (November - April).
7. May Rut Trong Island Phu Quoc
May Rut Trong is a small island in the An Thoi archipelago, about 11 km from An Thoi harbor as the crow flies. This island is one of the few islands with a long beach in the archipelago.
Almost all the islands have rock and coral reefs surrounding them and do not have the beach. May Rut Trong has the golden sand stretches and the coral reef. Therefore, May Rut Trong island has become a perfect place for tourists.
On a sunny day, you will be surprised by the turquoise seawater that makes you feel like wanting to jump in right away.
There are many activities in the private area of John's Tours on May Rut Trong Island:
- Sunbathing on the beach.
- Relaxing on the sun loungers or under the shadow of coconut trees.
- Enjoy seafood at two restaurants.
- Sipping your favorite drinks at May Rut Trong beach bar.
- Swimming in the clear blue water.
- SUP, parasailing, jet-skiing, banana riding.
- Exploring the forest.
You can visit May Rut Trong island by speedboat or boat. It takes about 30 minutes to get there by speedboat and about 1 hour by boat.
Traveling by boat is suitable for those who like relaxing on board, children, and the elderly. Traveling by speedboat is for those who like speed and who are seasick.
